Teaching and education

Juva is renowned for its high-quality education system that supports children and young people from early childhood education through to secondary school. The municipality takes pride in offering comprehensive educational services that cater to the developmental needs of every child. The continuum of care and education from early childhood through to high school provides a solid foundation for lifelong learning and success.

There are 3 schools in Juva. Two of schools are small village schools and one is bigger co-educational school called by "Martti Talvela Campus". The main picture is from Martti Talvela Campus. 

Early Childhood Education and Care

In Juva, early childhood education and care is designed to support children's growth and development through a structured and goal-oriented approach. Public early childhood education is available to all children until they start compulsory education. The focus is on pedagogy, with children's self-initiated play being a central element. The aim is to support parents and enhance the child's development.

Juva has two kindergartens: Apila and Mesikämmen. Apila is located on the Martti Talvela campus. Mesikämmen is also located right in the center of Juva. Apila means "clover" - clover is an important plant for Juva and the image of the clover can also be found on the coat of arms of Juva municipality. Mesikämmen is nick name and it means bear.

Paatela School

Basic education

There are 3 schools offering basic education in Juva. For each school, a certain area has been defined, according to which the student’s so-called neighbourhood school is determined.

Juvan kunta offers comprehensive basic education with three elementary schools and one upper secondary school. The modern Martti Talvela Campus was built in 2021. The Martti Talvela Campus serves as a comprehensive school, providing a high-quality learning environment. And fun fact: mr. Martti Talvela was a famous opera singer from Juva.

Additionally, Juva has two charming local schools, Paatela and Hatsola, located about 10 kilometres outside the town center. The Paatela School is a sympathetic, approximately hundred-year-old wooden school. The Hatsola School is charming old village school made of stones.

Secondary Education

Juvan Lukio aka Juva High School, located on the Martti Talvela Campus, provides high-quality secondary education. The school emphasizes creativity, community, and initiative, offering a wide range of courses, including language studies, arts, and sports. Students receive individual support and have access to modern learning facilities and equipment.

Juva High School has a own high school theather. Every year, almost all Juva high school students participate in making a theater production. The high school theater has more than 30 years of history. There is picture from high schools theater's show.

Mikkeli Music Institute

Mikkeli Music Institute offers a wide range of opportunities for children and young people in Juva to explore and develop their musical talents. The institute provides instruction in various instruments such as the flute, guitar, piano, and violin, as well as vocal training.

Students can participate in ensembles, orchestras, and bands, fostering a sense of community and collaboration. The supportive and inclusive environment encourages students to pursue their musical interests and achieve their full potential.
